Brandie Ekren

Lansing Board of Water & Light (LBWL)

Brandie Ekren is the Executive Director of Strategic Planning & Development at the Lansing Board of Water and Light (BWL). Her passion for the energy industry has helped her grow and advance her career at BWL for more than 15 years. She is currently responsible for overall organizational strategy, commercial and industrial business development, marketing and real property management.

Ekren joined BWL in 2004 as an associate attorney and advanced to General Counsel for BWL legal affairs in 2008. She acquired many responsibility areas throughout her tenure including enterprise risk management, real property management, corporate governance and environmental compliance.

Ekren's commitment to her community is only rivaled by her love of family. She is a board member for the Lansing Kiwanis Club's Endowment Fund and has served as the Kiwanis Club of Lansing chapter president. She also serves on the Highfields board of directors and was recently elected to be chair-elect for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.

Ekren was awarded the "Boss of the Year" distinction in 2010 by NALS of Lansing, a legal profession association whose mission is to shine a light on leaders in the industry. She also received the Athena Young Professional Leadership award in 2011 from The Links, Incorporated of Lansing/East Lansing. ATHENA Leadership award recipients are individuals who have achieved professional excellence, contribute time and energy to improving their communities and actively assist others in realizing their full leadership potential.

Ekren received a Bachelor of Arts with honors and a Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Michigan State University.
